Sparks 68, Lynx 51: Offense Struggles in Regular Season Finale

Sparks Lose to Lynx in Season Finale

The Los Angeles Sparks and Minnesota Lynx capped off their regular season on Sunday afternoon in a matchup that had playoff implications for Minnesota. However, both teams struggled to generate offense for the majority of the game and the Sparks led by as many as 27 points in the second half before ultimately settling for a 68-51 victory.

Lynx Fall Short of Playoffs

The Lynx loss eliminated them from playoff contention, marking the first time in franchise history that they will miss the postseason. Sylvia Fowles led the Lynx with 17 points and 12 rebounds, but Minnesota’s offense struggled to find a rhythm all game long. The Lynx shot just 32.3% from the field and were 1-of-16 from three-point range.

Sparks Clinch Fourth Seed

Meanwhile, the Sparks secured the fourth seed in the WNBA playoffs with the victory. Nneka Ogwumike led the way for the Sparks with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Chiney Ogwumike added 12 points off the bench.

Poor Shooting Performance by Both Teams

The game was a defensive slugfest from the opening tip. Both teams shot below 40% from the field and struggled to generate any sort of offensive flow. The Sparks led 34-23 at halftime and extended their lead to 27 points in the second half before the Lynx made a late run to cut the deficit to 17.

Playoff Implications

The Sparks will now face the fifth-seeded Dallas Wings in the first round of the playoffs. The Lynx will have to regroup and look ahead to next season.
