Michigan State depth chart, injury report: WR, OL uncertainty heading to Boston College

Uncertainty at wide receiver, offensive line for Michigan State ahead of road opener with Boston College

Spartans release depth chart amid injuries, position battles before ACC clash

EAST LANSING — Michigan State will travel to Boston College with question marks at wide receiver and on the offensive line heading into Saturday’s road opener with the Eagles.

The Spartans released their depth chart Tuesday, providing some clarity on the status of several players who missed the season-opening win over Western Michigan.

Wide receiver Jayden Reed, who missed the opener with a foot injury, is listed as questionable for Saturday’s game, along with fellow wideout Keon Coleman, who is dealing with a hamstring injury.

Offensive linemen J.D. Duplain (ankle) and Matt Carrick (undisclosed) are also questionable for Boston College after missing the opener.

Redshirt freshman wide receiver Germie Bernard, who caught a touchdown pass in the opener, is listed as the starter opposite Tre Mosley if Reed and Coleman are unable to play.

Daniel Barker and Ethan Boyd are listed as the starting tackles, with Nick Samac and Geno VanDeMark behind them, respectively.

If Duplain and Carrick can’t play, Samac could move to guard and VanDeMark would start at left tackle.

Fifth-year senior Matt Allen is listed as the backup center behind Nick Samac.

The Spartans are also dealing with injuries at linebacker, where Darius Snow is out for the season with a torn pectoral muscle and Ma’a Gaoteote is questionable with an undisclosed injury.

Ed Warriner is listed as the starting middle linebacker, with Cal Haladay and Chase Kline behind him.

The depth chart also lists several players who are expected to make their Michigan State debuts on Saturday, including transfer portal additions Ameer Speed (wide receiver), Bryce Baringer (punter) and Jeff Pietrowski (tight end).

The Spartans are looking to start 2-0 for the first time since 2018 when they travel to Boston College on Saturday. The game is scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. on the ACC Network.
