Alcaraz Advances To Semi Finals By Default

Jannik Sinner Withdraws From Madrid Open Due to Hip Injury

Alcaraz Advances to Semi-Finals by Default

World number two Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Madrid Open on Wednesday due to a hip injury. The withdrawal hands a walkover into the semi-finals to last year's finalist and current world number three, Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner's Wrist Injury Status Uncertain

Sinner's withdrawal comes after he suffered a nasty fall in his epic defeat against Alcaraz in the quarterfinals. The Italian admitted he doesn't know the extent of the damage to his wrist after the fall. It remains to be seen if the injury will impact his participation in the upcoming French Open.

Madrid Open Quarterfinals Shake-Up

Sinner's withdrawal has caused a major shake-up in the Madrid Open quarterfinals. With Sinner out, Alcaraz will now face either Rafael Nadal or David Goffin in the semi-finals. Nadal, who has won the Madrid Open five times, was surprisingly defeated by Alcaraz in the quarterfinals.
